Queen Elizabeth II Sends Message of Condolence to Italian President after Devastating Earthquake

Queen Elizabeth II extended her condolences to Italy’s president, Sergio Mattarella following the earthquake that hit the country’s central region.

At least 120 people reportedly died from the magnitude six earthquake, killing 120 people and leaving hundreds more injured.  The small towns of Amatrice, and Accumoli, and Pescara del Tronto.

On her message to the Italian president, the Queen said:

Prince Philip and I were saddened to hear of the loss of life following the earthquake in central Italy.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Italy, especially the family and friends of those affected.

The quake struck at 3.36am local time and was felt across a broad swathe of central Italy, including Rome, where residents woke to a long swaying followed by aftershocks.
