Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was believed to have shown
deep concern towards the Princess Diana
after her marriage to Prince Charles broke apart, Harry Herbert, a close
friend of Diana’s revealed.
A report on the Daily Mirror revealed that while many believed that Her Majesty and the Princess of Wales had a strained
relationship, Her Majesty asked Harry Herbert once while he was on a visit to
Balmoral in 1992 how Diana was coping.
In an interview with ITV documentary makers, Herbert
divulged for the first time his deep friendship with the late Princess of
Wales.
“The Queen wanted to talk to me about it because she was so
worried. She was so, you know, worried about Diana,” Herbert revealed.
“And the Queen wanted to know how was Diana feeling – and
was it as bad as it was. And it was a sad discussion – a sad moment really
because that was everything at its worst,” he continued.
Herbert’s father, Henry Herbert, the late 7th Earl of
Carnarvon, was a friend of the Queen. He also used to run the Queen’s racing
stables.
Herbert recalled the first time he met Diana, describing her
as a “vision of beauty,” who was so “full of laughter and energy.” Herbert said
that Diana made a “big impact” to him during their first meeting.
“I’m sure my shot was violently hooked or sliced but we
became great friends from that moment,” he said.
