Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall went to Belgium, to
the site of the Battle of Waterloo, to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the
historic battle and to unveil the memorial dedicated to the historic event. The
battle saw the downfall of Napoleon Bonaparte. The present Duke of Wellington, who takes the
courtesy title Prince of Waterloo in Belgium, showed Prince Charles the battle
field, pointing out where Napoleon was defeated. More
than 180,000 troops from Prussia, Britain, Holland and France spent ten hours fighting
in the battlefield. This was Napoleon’s last attempt to control mainland Europe
after escaping from exile. Image: PA/ Mail Online.
