Prince Charles unveils Waterloo memorial

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall went to Belgium, to the site of the Battle of Waterloo, to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the historic battle and to unveil the memorial dedicated to the historic event. The battle saw the downfall of Napoleon Bonaparte.  The present Duke of Wellington, who takes the courtesy title Prince of Waterloo in Belgium, showed Prince Charles the battle field, pointing out where Napoleon was defeated.   More than 180,000 troops from Prussia, Britain, Holland and France spent ten hours fighting in the battlefield. This was Napoleon’s last attempt to control mainland Europe after escaping from exile.  Image: PA/ Mail Online.
