Princess Eugenie of York is one of the members of the British Royal Family, the younger daughter of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Sarah, Duchess of York. Born Eugenie Victoria Helena on March 23, 1990 at London’s The Portland Hospital for Women and Children, her father, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, is the third child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. Her mother is Sarah Ferguson.

Despite enjoying the dignity and style afforded to the male-line grandchild of a sovereign, Eugenie and her older sister, Eugenie, only carry limited public engagements and receive no allowance from the Privy Purse. Here are 15 facts about Princess Eugenie of York.

1. She was named after Princess Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg, later Queen of Spain, and Princess Helena, the fifth child of Queen Victoria.

2. At the time of her birth, Eugenie was sixth in line to the throne, a position she lost after the birth of Prince George of Cambridge. Beatrice and Eugenie continues to go down the line of succession as their cousins Princes William and Harry have family.

3. She was the first royal baby to have a public christening, which was reportedly a “personal choice” of her parents, and the only grandchild of Her Majesty The Queen to not be baptized at the Lily Font as hers was held in Sandringham.

4. She had undergone a surgery to correct her scoliosis when she was 12 years old. Two titanium rods, each measuring 8 inches, were planted into each side of her spine, and screws measuring one-and-a-half inch were also inserted at the top of her neck.

5. As a teenager, Princess Eugenie attended the same school—the prestigious co-educational Marlborough College—at which sisters Kate and Pippa Middleton boarded, though the latter two were eight and seven years ahead of her, respectively.
