Marie, Princess of Liechtenstein, died on August 21, 2021, at the age of 81. Her death came just a few days after she suffered a stroke and was rushed to Grabs in Switzerland.
She was born on April 14, 1940, in Prague, the daughter of Count Ferdinand Kinsky of Wchinitz and Tettau (1908–1969) and his wife Countess Henriette Caroline of Ledebur-Wicheln (1910–2001).
After spending her younger years in Germany, England and France, Countess Marie, as she was known then, was married to her second cousin, once removed, Prince Hans-Adam II at St. Florin's in Vaduz on July 30, 1967. They have four children: Alois, the hereditary prince (born in Zürich, 1968), Maximilian (born in St Gallen, 1969), Constantin (born in St Gallen, 1972), and Tatjana (born in St Gallen, 1973).
As princess of Liechtenstein, Marie dedicated her time in supporting the education, culture and the arts of the tiny principality. From 1985 until 2015, she served as president of the Liechtenstein Red Cross from 1985 to 2015. Aside from her patronage of the Red Cross, she also supported to organizations that advocate people with special needs, environmental protection and history of Liechtenstein.
