Duchess of Sussex visits Uvalde memorial, pays respects to shooting victims

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, visited  a memorial site and paid her respects to the victims of the deadly elementary school shooting in Texas.

Meghan placed white flowers tied with a purple ribbon at a memorial outside the Uvalde County Courthouse on Thursday, Associated Press reports. The shootout left  19 students and two teachers killed at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde last Tuesday.

The Duchess, accompanied by a bodyguard, wore a baseball cap, white T-shirt and jeans, for the surprise visit, a report from The Los Angeles Times can confirm. She was seen looking down at crosses left to memorialize victims of the attack. Ignoring calls from reporters, she placed white roses tied with a purple ribbon at the cross for 10-year-old Uziyah Garcia.

Aside from the visit, the duchess  donated two crates filled with food, beverages, and desserts at a community center hosting a blood drive.

"I had no idea who she was. She just was carrying on a conversation like her and I knew each other for years," volunteer Gloria Contreras, told BuzzFeed News. "We were just talking about, you know, the situation and what happened what we were doing here. I told her about us giving out water to the people and feeding them." https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/kadiagoba/meghan-markle-uvalde-texas-school-shooting-memorial-blood
