Grand Duke Jean of Luxembourg Turns 95

Luxembourg pays its tribute to Grand Duke Jean on the occasion of his 95th birthday. A musical tribute and special royal birthday party was hosted at the Philharmonie where guests included King Philip and Queen Mathilde of the Belgians, Queen Sofia of Spain and her sister Princess Irene, King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie of the Hellenes, former queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, and former Crown Prince Hassan of Jordan and Princess Sarvath.

Grand Duke Jean was born on January 5, 1921 to Grand Duchess Charlotte and Prince Felix of Bourbon-Parma. He reigned from 1964 until 2000, when he abdicated in favor of his son, Luxembourg's reigning Grand Duke, Henri. He was married to Princess Josephine Charlotte of Belgium in 1953, with whom he had five children: Princess Marie Astrid, Archduchess of Austria, Grand Duke Henri, Prince Jean, Princess Margaretha, and Prince Guillaume.
